but that's what were stuck with. Our election system is set up so that you have to take one of two opposing sides. and the winner has to have a majority (sort of) instead of a plurality, so even bringing a third or fourth candidate would mess up the entire thing. You have Chocolate or Vanilla. Strawberry is denied!

Well, to start off with, I would suggest that the election should proceed in as a popular vote instead of the electoral system. That way, even if a bigger party won the state, the losing voters would not have to see their votes thrown away, thus giving more confidence to vote for a third party with the added bonus of a higher voter turnout. Secondly, I would advise that instead of a full majority even a plurality should be acceptable for gaining the presidency. There would be debate since that would mean a president would not need half of america's approval, but not having half of americans vote for a president never stopped anyone before. right now, even by gaining 34% of the of the electorate vote a third party would just foul up the system without getting a positive result. the winner would just be the party with the most seats in the house and senate. By using just these two changes, the entitre system would be changed to allow a third political flavor with the added benefits of more voter confidence and wider appeal to all americans that candidates would have to aquire.

^She's anti-video games? do you have any proof? If so, then my support for her just went into the negatives.
Now that is something each presidential hopefull should have as a debate topic.

Makes sense; I personally see the Electoral College as an outdated and elitist system. It's like the saying goes, "Everyone's equal, but some people are more equal than others." Realistically, I can see how two could head-butt over that kind of thing, but it could work nonetheless. I can see what you mean about the electorate... I think the entire issue of changing the system boils down to American stubbornness. After all, we're one of the only countries left using the English units of measurement, for example.
