Universal healthcare sounds great, but it's not a good system. It's been failing in Europe & Canada, so obviously it makes sense to bring it here! I have to counter this. The Current system in America has a healthcare system that has us ranked as 1 France 2 Italy 3 San Marino 4 Andorra 5 Malta 6 Singapore 7 Spain 8 Oman 9 Austria 10 Japan 11 Norway 12 Portugal 13 Monaco 14 Greece 15 Iceland 16 Luxembourg 17 Netherlands 18 United Kingdom 19 Ireland 20 Switzerland 21 Belgium 22 Colombia 23 Sweden 24 Cyprus 25 Germany 26 Saudi Arabia 27 United Arab Emirates 28 Israel 29 Morocco 30 Canada 31 Finland 32 Australia 33 Chile 34 Denmark 35 Dominica 36 Costa Rica 37 United States of America Compared to all them, who's heathcare system is failing?

Italy's #2? Well, to be honest, that doesn't seem so outrageous when you think about it. It's easier to provide universal health care to citizens of a smaller country than it is for citizens of a larger country.

Yeah, I was sorta suprised over that as well. i was more surprised by freakin' Colombia being above us. Who would have thought that the country known for drug cartels would be healthy?

That's not necessarily the case, as the WHO studies involve cumulatively subjective data that is amalgamated into an easy to swallow statistic. According to the CATO Institutes's research on the world health rankings entitled WHO’s Fooling Who? The World Health Organization’s Problematic Ranking of Health Care Systems, a factor such as "Financial Fairness" clearly skews any attempt towards a fair and balanced view of global health. To put it another way, it would be like averaging your total income to that of Bill Gates'; since his is astronomically higher than any of our incomes, the information becomes tainted with error.

yeah, its not like me to just spew pre-packages data but still, the simple fact is that americans live shorter lives than most countries with socialized health care.

I think that there are too many variables to take into consideration when comparing America to other countries. I think one of the reasons that could explain why Americans (supposedly) live shorter lives has to do with stress levels. The heart has to work faster if it's constantly working hard to maintain the body; add fear into the mix, and it's going to need to work overtime in order to keep things running.

but why is america the one having the most stress. Why have real wages (wages compared to production) gone down some 30% since the 1970's? These figures at least arnt from some internet. that's from The U.S department of labor Employment, Hours, and Earnings, United States Vol 1, bulleten 2245 We work harder for less money.
Anyway, back to health. what actually is wrong about Socialized health care?
England has had it since WWII. I hear americans say that it doesnt work, but I havent actually seen much proof.
There is criticism as well about canadians going to america for expedited service, but the same is true about americans going to canada. not just for cheaper prescriptions, but because thy can't pay for a doctor to treat them. Long waits and delays are common for us as well.

That's true (especially the last part), and it's primarily due to inflation. After Carter left office, we were faced with the "Reagan Years;" inflation skyrocketed as the US spent money like it were going out of style ("THAT'S WHAT THE COMMIES WANT!" LOL ;D ) To understand my frustrations with socialized health care, I'll use America's Social Security system as an example. After the "Great Depression," many Americans lost their life savings when the stock market crashed in 1929. So, President Roosevelt created (what was supposed to be a temporary relief system) known as "Social Security." People would deposit a portion of their income into this subsidized account so that they could access the funds later in life to pay for medical expenses. When the "Baby Boomer" generation came of age, they didn't replace the depleted funds spent by their elders. Now, these same boomers are the elders and are whining and complaining about a lack of money in social security, money that they were supposed to have deposited over a lifetime. The problem with this scenario is that too many people have taken and not given back to equalize the situation. If socialized medicine is to come about, it should be done gradually rather than overnight. I'll talk to me mum about that one, considering that she had me in an English hospital ;D That is interesting; Canadians wanting it faster, yet paying more... And Americans wanting medical treatment because they can't pay for it... [Sarcasm]You've gotta love doctors who turn away patients for lack of insurance[/Sarcasm]
