Should the Star Wars Prequels Have Been Made?

This has been bothering me for a while in terms of pop-culture. As much as I love the Clone Wars stories and political intrigue of Episode II, it seems to me that George Lucas became obsessed with Star Wars instead of moving on and giving the world new and different offerings.

Agreed. The world would not have suffered if it didn't have episodes "I, II & III" A.K.A the prequels. However, (me not knowing much about Lukas aside from the Star Wars movies), how much different do you really think he could make another movie? Perhaps Star Wars is the only really good thing he's come up with and he's desperate to follow that line as long as he can. If that's the case then the logical conclusion would be that anything he'd make would be similar in a desperate attempt to stay close to those ratings. I'd love for you (and him) to prove me wrong (again, know zilch one way or another), but from what my limited understanding is, that's basically it from him.

they should have done the prequels...but they should have used no name actors...pandering to sam jackson cause he wanted to be in it...need no jimmy smits this movie does...less on the cgi...
3 originals did fine with actual set pieces for actors to interact with instead of looking around a large green tarp...used more of the mythos from the books...instead of using his limited imagination...jar-jar should be boiled in oil and served for thanksgiving...hired actors who have actual acting talent (natalie portman and ewan macgregor you guys are cool you can stay...everyone else leave...wait Christopher lee you can join the other two)...I guess he used a lot of cg to deter the audience away from the crappy story and the fact that the coolest villain ever created started out as a whiny biotch!!! CENSORSHIP! YOU HAYDEN CHRISTIAN...YOU BLEW IT...YOU MANIAC...YOU BLEW IT ALL AWAY!!!!

Gotcha. kk, can't argue there. So, if you gentlemen don't mind I'm going to take this thread in a slightly different direction: Since you believe they should have been made, but don't really like them, what would you change, what would you keep, and why?

acting...real sets...an actual story that was good and get rid of the first one altogether and have episode 2 as 1 and do a 3rd one where he is trying to find the kids while destroying the rest of the jedi order out there...the Empire taking over everything and Boba Fett taking part in something

Yeah, if anything, having Anakin be older in this retooled Episode I would have meant that his formative years could be covered in spin-off material for the fans to spend their disposable income on.
