One of my all-time favorite moments is from Detective Comics #826, when the Joker pulls into a knock-off McDonald's, demands everything on the menu at a rapid speed, gets angry at the drive-through worker, and then shoots the manager in the face for not getting his order right. Dark? Definitely, but it's completely in character and shocking all the same. In terms of light-hearted shenanigans, the moment in "The Laughing Fish" episode of Batman: The Animated Series where he pulls a cord near his stomach revealing an inflatable duck life preserver always gets a smile out of me...

I can't think of one at the moment, but that Detective Comics #826 is an awesome Joker story.

My favorite is from Batman (1989) where joker calmly pulls out a pistol with a 3 foot long barrel to shoot down the Batwing, but i got to see that #826 some time

That, and the subtle reference to Superman ("You wouldn't hit a guy with glasses, now would you?") makes me laugh every time ;D

826 was a great issue, I love that part in particular.
My favorite Joker story to date is "Dreadfull Birthday, Dear Joker!" He kidnapps, Gordon, Selina, Robin, Alfred, & several other characters & invites all of Gotham to an exhibition for a fake company promising free cake. He then paralyses everyone as a giant cake emerges from the stage with his captives tied to enormous explosive candles. In the end he ties Batman to an enormous rocket on the top & sets the fuse aflame. it's a great story ending with Mr. J's apparent death. All great Joker stories HAVE to have him die in the end.

Yeah, I guess it's a running joke to kill him off and bring him back...

The original plan back in Batman #1 was to just have him die, end of story. Then someone (Bob likes to take the credit) said that he's too good a character to waist so at the end he emerges from the bay. & it's become a cliche staple of the character.

Yeah, I think Bob just wants more credit than he really deserves. In all honesty, yes, he did put some work into his creation, but credit should be given to a person like Bill Finger for all the writing and what-not.

I was talking with my sister about the 40's Batman panel of "Quiet! Or, papa spank!" when I realized that Joker said this in the "Be a Clown" episode of Batman: The Animated Series!
