After reading Superman/Batman: Vengeance, the idea struck me (ow... ;D ) to create my own spin on Superman's villain Bizarro.
To me, he is the antithesis of everything the Man of Steel is; truth, justice, and (if you've read the 50's comics or have seen the television series), "the American way".
With that being said, I envisioned a Bizarro cloned not from a single DNA sample of Superman, but of two of Superman's most dangerous foes; Kryptonian warlord General Zod and Lex Luthor. I imagined that Lex, being the genius that he is, not only discovered an access point into the Phantam Zone, but also granted his creation a fraction of the intelligence contained within himself. Why? So that he could greater control the beast, but, like so many other experiments in our world, once the deed is done, you find that controlling is easier said than done.
So, with the powers of Superman via Zod (along with his cruelty and ruthlessness), combined with Lex's mental prowess, you would think he would be more of a match for the Man of Steel, right? The problem lay in mixing human dna with Kryptonian, and what resulted was a semi-intelligence monster along the lines of Frankenstein. Lex, embarrased by this failure, abbandons the creature to his own fate, believing his gifts wasted on the monstrosity. However, Luthor's brilliance emerges within Bizarro once exposed to blue Kryptonite, a mildly radioactive hybrid mineral discovered in the arctic wastes of Siberia by LexCorp employees. Fascinated by this new discovery, Lex experiments with the sample only to discover that when the mineral is within the prescence of Bizarro, does the beast show to the world the hyper intellect within. How is this possible? The Kryptonian DNA acted as a sort of "hyper stimulant" to the human attributes within, and boosted the relatively low intelligence levels of Bizarro into that of a 12th level intellect (rivaling both Lex Luthor and Brainiac). However, this discovery was not without its costs; in the years to come, Bizarro, fashioning a blue Kryptonite ring so that he can forever be in control of his mind and body, discovers the horrible truth... The cloning process and subsequent exposure to the blue Kryptonite has rendered him sterile. Unlike Superman, this monster is, and always will be, the last of his kind.
