Gun control is dangerous because it takes away the right which guarantees all other rights as Americans. The idea that every proverbial ounce of trust can and should be placed in the hands of a government employee is disturbing. In the words of a bumper sticker I once encountered, "When seconds count, the police are only minutes away."
Furthermore, the idea that gun crimes will drop simply by removing guns is ridiculous. If anyone wants anything in America, all they need is perseverance, time and money to accomplish it; the "American Dream" works both ways and can, inversely, become an "American Nightmare." Criminals will not rid themselves of guns simply because a law, which they gladly circumvent anyway, tells them to do so.
There are, unfortunately, disturbed and sick people in the word; entropic individuals which destroy or disturb the order we wish to surround ourselves. We should not, however, limit guns simply to criminals and government employees, lest we politically shoot ourselves in the foot.
Those are some of my thoughts on the matter; what are yours and why?
