I'm a Lana person, which I guess comes from being raised in rural areas... That, and I have a thing for redheads ;D

My vote goes to Post-Crisis Lana Lang, mainly the version in Superman For All Seasons.
As classic as the Superman-Lois relationship is, I've always had a bit of a problem with how, in most comics (before she found out his secret), Clark was in love with someone who treated him badly (she was always stealing the stories from him in the forties cartoons. I'm surprised Clark kept his job!) and always got into reckless trouble, while a sweet girl back at his home town already had accepted both sides of him and was in love with him.
I can't help but read Superman For All Seasons and say to myself, "Geez, Clark, how can you fall for this one and how can you NOT fall for Lana?"

My vote goes to Post-Crisis Lana Lang, mainly the version in Superman For All Seasons. I loved that version, too; she was also the one with my favorite quote about Superman from the same story. As classic as the Superman-Lois relationship is, I've always had a bit of a problem with how, in most comics (before she found out his secret), Clark was in love with someone who treated him badly Me'thinks that Superman liked someone who treated him roughly because it reminded him that he didn't have to live in a "world of cardboard" all the time. (she was always stealing the stories from him in the forties cartoons. I'm surprised Clark kept his job!) I think he would have kept his job simply because he's a man; Lois Lane, the "girl reporter" would be the first to go even though, as you said, she kept stealing stories. ...while a sweet girl back at his home town already had accepted both sides of him and was in love with him. As a writer, I'd rather showcase Lana and Clark together, especially if they were living in Metropolis. That way, you'd have the familiar loving relationship from the farm between the two, but you'd have the tension between Clark and Lois as well. I can't help but read Superman For All Seasons and say to myself, "Geez, Clark, how can you fall for this one and how can you NOT fall for Lana?" My theory is that Clark, having grown up in the country, was enamored by the "big city" when he first arrived. As such, he tended to downplay how much his home meant to him in pursuit of what he considered "bigger and better things," including women in his life.
