Whose bright idea was it at DC to have the Man of Steel sport a "Tennessee Top-hat"? Does anyone know the answer to this?

Ok, so I guess their rationale was "If I came back from the dead and wanted to make a statement, I'd grow a bad hair-style from the 80's..."

naw, I bet Lois made him get a cut, cause ponytails don't make you look younger, nor do they make you cooler, especially when old people have them (like my dad)

Could that be why older guys in their "Mid-Life Crisis On Infinite Earths" get them along with Porsche's and younger wives?
