Since Pre-Crisis was a time of introduction and development of the characters in which our famous icons were still trying to find their voices (just read the early Superman and Batman stories to see how much they've developed and become more unique in contemporary comics), they seem less appealing in comparison to today's Post-Crisis era.
But are there elements from the old days that you prefer over the new?
Personally, as said in the original thread where this was forked from, I prefer Brainiac in Pre-Crisis. The classic green-skinned look is, for the most part, consistent and his goal of collecting worlds for study is pretty cool. He is simply a cyborg/humanoid from Planet Colu.
The origin of Brainiac in Post-Crisis- Vril Dox's "consciousness" travels to Earth to take over human Milton Fine's?? And the guy's changed forms so many times I have no idea what he's supposed to look like now. Sometimes, simpler is better...
Even moreso, I prefer the Pre-Crisis Superman in that Clark Kent, for the most part, is an act. To me, there's something very appealing about the fact that, beneath this mild-mannered, weak-willed, lesser-known reporter is one of the most powerful beings on Earth who can change the world.
Also, I think that the glasses are only part of the disguise. His attitude has to be effective as well in order to keep his identity secret from the world. Clark Kent shouldn't do something that Superman would do. I recently re-watched the S:TAS episode called "Ghost in the Machine" knowing that the show, for the most part, followed the Post-Crisis Superman. There's one part where Clark basically goes to LexCorp demanding to see Lex, looks at the office door for a suspiciously long time to use his X-Ray vision (nobody seems to ask "What's he looking at?"), and then pretty much bursts in to prove to Mercy that Lex isn't in there . I was surprised nobody noticed that this rather aggressive reporter...seemed a bit like Superman.
