Split from: Which+Villain+Would+You+Rather+Have+in+the+FilI have not read this. Would you recommend it? Ever since I can remember, I have been a Superman fan; I've recently rediscovered drawings of mine from when I was 8-years-old and sure enough, there are dozens of little characters with split curls and large "s"' on their chests. As an immigrant, I have looked up to Superman as an enduring example of what anyone can accomplish, no matter where they hail from. Beyond that, though, I never valued Superman as an enduring American icon until I came across the Elseworlds story Superman: Red Sun in 2003. This what-if story is a simple but powerful one; what if Superman had landed on Earth only a handful of hours later than he would have landed? What if instead of rural American Kansas he landed in the heart of Soviet Ukraine? I don't want to directly spoil any plot points about this fascinating story, but I will say this; I appreciate Superman so much more now after reading this story where Lex Luthor is America's savior.

Red Son was awesome...and Bizarro in that story was so tragic I completely agree; I also loved the stylized logo on his chest for "US."

What ending? One of my favorite elements of the story never actually made it into the pages; if you look in the back of the collected trade paperback edition, there is a uniform for Superman that is absolutely amazing... It's like a General's dress uniform, from the piping on the tunic to the black dress boots. Plus, Superman has an awesome evil goatee ala the "Mirror, Mirror" episode of the original Star Trek series ;D
