From Dark Knight Director Shuns Digital Effects For the Real ThingSo far, I'm liking what I'm seeing in The Dark Knight in regards to The Joker. The look, characterization, the voice (for the most part), the laugh... All of these elements could make for one exciting film. However, there's just one problem; Heath Ledger is dead. I feel that the Oscar judges and voters will give Ledger a posthumous Oscar because they feel sorry for his death. Which leads me to why I feel there's a problem; if Ledger hadn't died, would people still be willing to vote him for an Oscar?

Even Jett from Batman-On-Film has fallen in step with the Oscar voters: When I go to see The Dark Knight in 10 days, I will admit that I will probably enjoy everything it offers. I am not, however, such a blindly loyal fan that I would endorse Heath Ledger for an Oscar. Will his performance be riveting? Yes. Does that warrant an Oscar nod? Perhaps. Should he receive a memorial one? No.

^ I agree entirely, in all respect to Ledger, who I think would simply want us to enjoy and appreciate his performance.

To me, the best form of "reward" for an actor (beyond their considerable paycheck) would be for someone to tell them that they enjoyed what they witnessed.

I agree...if he does get (at least) an oscar nomination it should be for the performance he did and not the tragedy...besides when I see the movie if he deserves a nomination...I watch these lame hollywood shows and everyone has someone else's lips on their butt half the time and these "reporters" are suckin up more than a vacuum cleaner on a dirty floor...they threw out "oscar" so they can create hype...like the movie doesn't have enough hype than it already does...I think this movie now generates "buzz" on it's own it's self-reliant now...a monster who feeds on the fanboy's need for another 30 sec clip with 2 sec of new material...HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! *cough* *cough*

I'm not saying he absolutely shouldn't be nominated, but he also shouldn't win sheerly due to sycophantic actors. If you get right down to it, that's one of the central aspects of this whole situation; people capitalizing off of Ledger's demise. I'm relieved that WB isn't going the same route in favor of having some semblance of taste. If that hasn't described my anticipation for watching clips online for this film, I don't know what will

I know that IF Ledger wins posthumously it'll only be for his untimely demise. But the man seriously deserves an Oscar, The Joker was amazing! He got into The Joker's head & just became him.
I wasn't constantly thinking "I'm watching Heath Ledger play The Joker", I was thinking, "Jesus H, The Joker's F-ing terrifying!" He scared me tremendously, he made me laugh when I know I shouldn't have, & he made me love to hate The Joker.
During the confict in the partially constructed highrise I was dying to see Batman pound his sorry ass into the pavement. & this time it wasn't because I wanted him to die because he's a terrible actor & the character's a joke *cough* Nicholson *cough*, but it's because he's a demented bastard that deserves to die.
He delivered the best performance I've seen in the past decade. I watch Dustin Hoffman, & I think, he should've delivered the line different, or God! that was stupid. But there wasn't a single thing I found wrong with his Joker. It was perfect

Leave it to the sycophants in Hollywood to jump on Death's bandwagon to appear hip or posh To me, that praise should be worth far more to any actor than a golden trinket. I felt the exact same way throughout the film What I loved was seeing Batman rise to the Joker's challenge and become a better rather than worse person in the process. Hands down, that was one of the best endings for any series; anyone else think of "Empire Strikes Back" when they saw it? ;D I guess the only thing I didn't dig was the weird staccato version of "Good evening, ladies and gentlemen" rather than the subdued version in one of the trailers. Other than that nit-picky moment, I completely loved him in The Dark Knight
