I'm wondering who wrote some of the bios- fans with too much time on their hands or actual LEGO/DC people who meant those to be the backgrounds for the LEGO characters.
Batman has the Begins origin of having a fear of bats. Joker has the B89 origin of being Jack Napier and working for Carl Grissom.
I haven't played the video game. The only thing related to this that I own is a LEGO Joker keychain that my friend gave me, which was awesome. So I'm clueless as to whether or not the official merchandise have write-ups like those or if fans just wrote that up on LEGO Batman Wiki.

It's definitely the LEGO staff; the same bios are on the LEGO Batman website... I see it as a way for die-hard fans/staff members to have their own interpretations of the characters be represented for millions of kids. When we get right down to it, battles like these (namely, ideological battles) are about attempting to prove who is right and who is wrong... It's never about the benefit of the children at all...

That's pretty sweet, then. Indeed! It's not always a bad thing, and hell, they're just LEGOs so it's not like we're having "Crisis On Infinite Bricks" or something
