One of my favorites is Ozymandias from Watchmen. He was once a super hero, but he fakes an alien invasion to prevent World War III at the cost of 3 million lives of New Yorkers.

^ I remember him, but isn't he really a good guy? He does it in order to prevent World War 3. I know it ends up being an ends and means moral question. but I have to say that he at least has good intentions.

True, but then again, there's the "scene" or panels where he poisons the drinks of his Vietnamese servants before telling him his life story. This is eerily similar to the Joker poisoning a real estate agent with a hand-buzzer like needle in The Killing Joke; ironically enough, "Killing Joke" was also written by Alan Moore 3 years later.

LOL... nice. My fav is down between Doc Ock and Magneto, just because they're so... human! Doc Ock was good, but was twisted by technological power to the brink of insanity after a freak accident killed his wife and fused his creation to his nervous system. Magneto actually believes he is the good side, and acts on his paranoia rooted in his time in the Nazi concentration camp. They're both well written and totally identifiable. I love that about villains.
For sheer brilliance, however, I'd have to say Riddler... gotta love anybody that can get on the dark knight's nerves and actually make him think.
And for random ones that no one's ever heard of, Gotta stick with the Devilish Pig--- Tim'll get the reference.

Magneto is great, isn't he. There is something about benovelant villains like him and Ozymandias that just strikes a chord with people.
