I think you're really on to something with your Rufus Sewell choice, BatmAngelus. I haven't actually seen him in anything, but from what you describe, he does sound like he would pull off Harvey Dent, and I agree that he looks like Sale's Dent. Now, I can't say who I'd currently want to be Joker, as I haven't seen most of the stated candidates in any movies that would show whether they might do Joker well or not, but I can tell you what qualities I would want in the one who ends up playing the Clown Prince of Crime. He should be able to be convincingly terrifying, ecstatic and hysterical, VERY sadistic, and display a very twisted sense of humor. He should behave in a way that will make the audience laugh honestly but guiltily; not be sure if they should be laughing or shocked. Physically, he should be tall, thin, and nimble. In my mind, he doesn't have to be able to take on Batman physically, but he should be quick and agile. He should NOT look goofy when done up as Joker; rather, he should look shocking, and behavior-wise, he should be unsettling for anyone who is watching him, or near him. He should also behave very erratically, and seem very unstable. ;D That's all I can say for now.

^ Very cool. I just hero-ed you. I recommend you check out Dark City for Rufus Sewell in action. It also happens to be a good sci-fi movie with an ending that the Wachowskis should've paid attention to (but didn't, sadly) when making the Matrix sequels... As for the rumored Joker candidates, I like Paul Bettany the best. According to BOF, he actually IS going to audition for it. He's young, British, and seems to be the type of actor Nolan would cast in a Batman film. Plus, he's physically suited for the part. He's tall at 6'3" (which is one inch taller than Bale) and in Wimbledon, he showed off some muscles- I imagine that he could handle himself well in a physical fight with Bale's Batman. Oh yeah, and check out that smile: www.paulbettany.net/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=1005&fullsize=1For more pictures of Paul from Gangster No. 1, check this site out www.paulbettany.net/gallery/index.php?cat=10Check out the trailer for Gangster No. 1 on this site for footage of Bettany playing a psycho: www.movie-list.com/g/gangsternumber1.shtmlCheck this out: www.paulbettany.net/main.php?trailersScroll down and catch a deleted scene of Gangster No. 1 WARNING!!!: This clip has REALLY REALLY strong language and graphic violence. But if you want to be convinced that Bettany can play a dangerous psycho...check it out. He even sounds like a British Mark Hamill at one point- "What am I going to do with you??!!!" hush, this clip shows EXACTLY what you wanted to see with Joker- a twisted sense of humor that's both shocking and funny at the same time. www.paulbettany.net/main.php?soundsSound clips. I recommend A Knight's Tale's "Introducing William." It's a great comedic monologue. Also, if you check out the Dogville sound clips, you'll find that he can do a believable American accent. He could easily Americanize his crazy voice from his Knight's Tale monologue into a Joker voice.

^ I just saw Christopher on Doctor Who...I'm not saying that he'd be an awful Joker, I just think that it's still too early to call...

I've seen clips of Dr. Who. He seems to be quite quirky and unpredictable.
I've seen him intense in Elizabeth and a clip from Cracker.
And he's definitely played a lot of villains. Eccleston-for-Joker fans cite Othello (a modern day version with Eccleston stealing the show as a modern Iago named Ben Jago), Shallow Grave (scary Eccleston), and The Revengers Tragedy (evil Eccleston!) as good films to watch for his potential. If he does indeed get cast for the role, I would definitely check those out.
For now, I'll have to acknowledge that he's a great actor with potential to play the part from the clips I saw.

Yes, I kinda did too. That's the Joker's thing, isn't it? Mixing humor with violence.
It's not something I'd want to see the Joker do in a sequel, but it's definitely something he's capable of doing.

Because I loved the dark humor from that sequence... , even my 9-year-old cousins love that; every time they see me, they somehow manage to find an instance where they can say "He got a little hot under the collar"...I loved how they didn't even truly know what was going on...
