Just for clarification, did Bruce Wayne ever make a guest-appearance on the show? I remember reading something about this but I wasn't sure... Nah man he didn't. They had the idea but were nervous about it. Then WB wanted a batman origin movie (batman begins) so they just all around scrapped the idea. If i recall correctly (if i don't, i believe Dr. Crane knows this bit of history as well so if he has input *hint hint*) there was once a pilot written for a series much like smallville from the same creator that showed Bruce on his way to the mantle of the Batman. It had him travelin' the world on his way to learn what necessary to fight crime. But it didn't pan out as Batman Begins however did. But all for the best i think. Off topic bit but...i swear it's like impossible for me to not make a long post. Check my post history. They're like manifesto's.

Tim McCanlies (The Iron Giant) wrote a pilot script for a proposed Bruce Wayne series. I didn't care much about the concept. In this, Bruce returns to Gotham at 18 years old and this series is about the transition from Bruce's return to Gotham at 18 to becoming Batman in his twenties. There's a young Jim Gordon as well as his teenage daughter, Babs, who seems to have a crush on Bruce. And then, there was a just-out-of-law-school Harvey Dent (pretty much, the Lex Luthor of the series. They were even considering Michael Rosenbaum to play him, but they never got to the actual casting stage) and a new character- his hot sister, another love interest for Bruce. Most interesting was the main villain (think Lionel Luthor in terms of his constant appearances and the fact that nearly every evil act leads up to him) of the show was...a Wayne Enterprises CEO who pretends to be Bruce's friend and all, but he really just wants to take over the company. This character was Charles Palantine, named after the Taxi Driver character. Somehow the character wound up as William Earle in Begins. Coincidence? Or was Goyer seeing a chance to use an unused idea? For info, check here: www.kryptonsite.com/brucewayne/Something interesting I thought I'd bring up, but in Season 3, there was a character named Adam Knight, who guest starred in about 5 episodes. Fans thought that it may have been Bruce Wayne, going under cover, until, his last couple episodes revealed that he was not only a spy for Lionel Luthor, but also a teenager who had died of liver disease and had been brought back to life by the sample of Clark's blood (taken in Season 2 when Clark contracted a Kryptonian disease). The fans thought it may have been Bruce (and went overkill as I'll describe to you guys here). Ian Somerhalder, who played Adam, had actually been proposed on the fansite, Kryptonsite.com, to play Bruce Wayne on their annual "April Fools Day" of News Coverage. Appearance wise, he looks a bit like a thinner, darker looking Tom Welling. In terms of the character, people thought it would've been a cool alias (Adam= Adam West, Knight= Dark Knight). Plus, in his first appearance, he and Lana are in the physical training room and he tells her to "work through the pain" and later reveals that his parents were killed (although, by a "fire"). He also wore a shirt that said 27 (fans thought it meant Detective Comics #27!). And then in a subsequent episode(s), Adam wears gray and black colored clothes (similar to Clark's blue and red color scheme?), shows that he knows martial arts, and is even more computer savvy than Chloe. But when questioned about the latter two skills by Lana, Adam got evasive and didn't reveal the truth. There are rumors that the producers actually intended on having it be a Bruce Wayne-in-disguise, but was forced to change it. Apparently, WB doesn't want them using Batman or Wonder Woman because of the movies (which is plain stupid. 'Cause they're allowing Superman Returns and Smallville to co-exist). So unless someone gets smart at WB, it doesn't look like we'll ever see Bruce on the show.

I don't know how it would have turned out, and I'm glad they made Begins, and went with a Clark Kent show instead(showing what happened when Clark was young make much more sense than doing it with Bruce; Bruce just didn't have time to fiddle around during those years, and I feel they can just do a lot more with the Superman mythology in a show like this). Still, I am intruigued.

Hey everybody! I've recently discovered that "Lionel Luthor" on Smallville is played by a alumni named John Glover; he's the man who played Edward Nygma/ the Riddler on Batman:The Animated Series!
