Split from: Recommended+Batman+TPBsWhether you're a long-time fan or brand new to Superman, there are certain stories and story lines which are essential to an in-depth understanding of what makes the Man of Steel tick. So, for ease of research, I've decided to create a thread on DC for fans in search of the best Superman trade-paperbacks* I'll start off with three obvious (at least from those in the know) TPBs and post my reasonings below this post Regular Continuity - Superman: The Man of Steel Volume One
- Superman: For All Seasons
- Superman: Peace on Earth
[/u] [/li][/ul] Alternate Continuity (example: "What if?" stories or pre-"Crisis On Infinite Earths") - Kingdom Come
- Superman: Red Son
Feel free to post any that you think are the best-of-the best and if we reach a consensus I'll be sure to add it to our ongoing list ASAP *Many thanks to Comic Book Resources for the idea

I have not read this, but would anyone recommend Superman: Up, Up, and Away? It sounded intriguing to me since, from what I've heard, it kind of incorporates elements from the Donner/Lester/Singer films into the comics.
I'm also wondering the same for All-Star Superman, Vol. 1.

I don't have an opinion on it either way as I have never read it; once I do, I'll post in this thread (or the antithetical version of this thread) I loved it because it used Silver-Age shenanigans with modern Superman storytelling; so, if you liked elements from the 50's and 60's Superman comics with a more contemporary edge, you might like All-Star Superman... I liked it a hell of a lot better than All-Star Batman

Sweet. I love it when writers, like Morrison, bring in elements of the past and make them more relevant to the contemporary comics in a creative way. He seems to be doing this well in his Batman run as well.

He seems to be doing this well in his Batman run as well. Plus, what's not to love about Superman robots? Or a super-powered Lois? These kinds of elements were commonplace back in the 50's and 60's and somehow Morrison made them cool again with All-Star Superman

I recommend Kingdom Come (awesome) and Red Son (awesome) both were excellent, in Kingdom Come I like the element of Captain Marvel grown up and everyone thinks it's Marvel but it's just Billy Batson under Mr. Mind's control by Lex

I'll definitely add those to the list (albeit, in an alternate continuity context)

funny all the tbp's of any Superman have been alternate reality ones...another good one was written by John Cleese and drawn by John Byrne...it was what happens when he crashed in England...was really funny

I liked elements of it, but it's not one of my favorites...
