Anyone else here a fan of 2001: A Space Odyssey? There's just something about Kubrick's filming style which made it accessible to me...

Almost all of Kubricks movie's a re visceral and have a beautiful quality to them, 2001 was awesome and the camera work on Full Metal Jacket was awesome as well (can't get enough of the word AWESOME!!)

I don't know what it was with "Full Metal Jacket", but I just couldn't get into it. I don't think it was bad by any means, but my favorite parts had to deal with "Private Joker" at the beginning during the dehumanization process by drill sergeant R. Lee Ermey.

when they get to vietnam...he's using the camera especially in the sniper scenes to show the degredation of the psyche of some of these guys who see death everyday and what it does to their minds...powafull stuff...(don't really know what I'm talking about...while rifling through film-making for dummies)

I'll give it another go when I buy the Stanley Kubrick - Warner Home Video Directors Series DVD set; I haven't seen it since '02 I believe, so my opinion can definitely change with time

Dr. Strangelove was hilarious...Peter Sellers...is a genius *Still on-topic* Which is why I despise Steve Martin's version of The Pink Panther. Sellers had this ability to be absolutely hysterical by blending into characters, which Martin has yet to do IMO...

I agree...I refused to see any of these "new" pink panther films...when the first came out I couldn't believe they were remaking classics...I guess studios need more money while stomping over movies that don't need to get remade...like ROBOCOP

What I loved about Stanley Kubrick was that he would allow Peter Sellers to have creative input with his roles; which, considering Kubrick's obsessive nature, is an amazing artistic allowance.
